We received this news from the family of Chip Stone:
Charles B. “Chip” Stone Jr., a dedicated Wesleyan alum, died on October 15, 2025, at the age of 97. At Wesleyan, he was known as a standout scholar-athlete who set swimming records. After graduating from Harvard Business School in 1951, he joined his father to run the family heating business in Middletown. From his activities as an alum, chairing Wesleyan’s Alumni Association and spearheading multiple fundraising campaigns, Chip was honored in 1979 with Wesleyan’s Distinguished Alumnus Award. His father, Charles B. Stone, received the same accolade the year before. At nearby Middlesex Health, MH President Vincent Capece said, “Chip was a gentleman who will be remembered for his grace, dry humor, and dedication to helping others.” Charles B. Stone Jr. leaves a legacy of Wesleyan graduates: Sarah Stone Maynard ’79; Charles B. Stone III ’82; Frederick C. Maynard IV ’11, and his wife, Julia B. Heffelfinger ’11; and Hannah G. Stone ’15.
A celebration of life will be held for Chip in Madison, Connecticut, in June. For information and for his full obituary, please visit Legacy.com.
